The long awaited announcement and unveiling of the 3G IPhone came today. Based on all the changes made to this phone, it seems that Apple has listened to their customers and the suggestions that they have made quite closely. The phone has thinner edges than the original IPhone, and has a plastic back. The speed of receiving data on the phone is said to be improved as well. ![]()
Other various tidbits about the phone
- A very impressive GPS system should help users navigate their way around
- The phone weighs 4.7 oz. so the weight is little changed
- Apple is also rolling out IPhone 2.0 software with the 3G IPhone
- The phone is more glossy and smooth than the original
- 3G data plans will be available to users at an extra cost of $30 per month.
So when will this thing be available in stores anyway? It will be in stores across the United States on July 11th.
How much will this thing cost? Surprisingly enough, it will cost just $199 for the 8 GB model and $299 for the 16 GB model. Apple will no longer be a percentage of the fees that carriers charge, rather it is just receiving its money from the original sale of the phone.
At the $199 price that is being offered there is no doubt that there will be some huge demand for this product. I would expect July 11th to be a very hectic day at local AT&T and Apple Stores. If you are one of those who just recently bought the 2.5 G IPhone Apple has some good news for you. It will alow those who have bought that product since May 27th to exchange it out for the new 3G IPhone for no additional costs.
Obviously, in order to get the IPhone you will have to sign a contract with AT&T, which is still the sole carrier of the IPhone.
All you IPhone fans, mark July 11th on the calendar and prepare to wait in line!
