Technology stocks get a lot of coverage on television as well as the web because a lot of investors have interest in technology stocks. Why do technology stocks get so much press? Quite frankly because technology is always a place investors look for some large gains in a short amount of time because technology is all about changing the future of our economy, something that stock market participants value greatly. The following five stocks are the stocks I believe are in the best position to benefit in 2008![]()
Top 5 Techs in 2008
- Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL)- You simply can't argue with the fact that Apple is a tech leader in innovation now. No other company is as far ahead of the technology curve, and they should continue to benefit nicely.
- SunPower Corporation (Nasdaq:SPWR) A leader in solar electric power, SunPower has a huge presence in the fast growing imaging detector business. The green movement will help this company greatly.
- Cisco Systems (Nasdaq:CSCO) Frequent readers of GrowYourFunds already know that I see Cisco as a leader in the tech space. Cisco should continue to grow impressively both overseas and domestically. The valuation has actually gotten to a point where the stock looks cheap.
- Autodesk (Nasdaq:ADSK) ADSK continues to perform admirably. The company deals in software and design for engineering and infrastructure markets. The infrastructure stocks have been absolutely on fire and have a tremendous backlog, so shouldn't ADSK benefit?
- Western Digital Corporation (NYSE:WDC) Western Digital is not in a particularly "sexy" area of the technology sector, but its bottom line profit growth of late has been amazing. Estimates have gone way up in the past month or so and the stock is now trading at a PEG ratio of just 0.69. Look for this one to fly under the radar, but do very well.
An important thing for tech investors to remember is that you should never say that valuation doesn't matter. In the tech bubble of the early 2000's numerous investor said that because of the growth of the companies, earnings and valuations didn't matter. We all know how that one turned out. Growth is extremely important, but if the company cannot turn that growth into bottom line profits sooner rather than later, they will likely become a thing of the past quite quickly.
Always do your own homework when it comes to buying stocks. Please use this list to help you when doing your own researching of what tech stocks to include in your portfolio.
