There is no doubt that the launch of the Apple iPhone has to be considered a huge success thus far. Because of that success it is no surprise that Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) is now coming out with its new lineup of phones this fall which will compete directly with the iPhone.
The LG Voyager will be the most direct competition for the Apple iPhone. The Voyager is unique from the iPhone in that it includes a full QWERTY keyboard that certainly appeals to the messaging crowd. The Voyager features a full screen touchscreen on the outside and a second screen on the clamshell interior. ![]()
In addition to the Voyager, Verizon will also be offering three other fashionable new phones.
The Samsung Juke is a music phone that is extremely small. Gadgetell actually describes the phone as being just slightly bigger than a stick of gum. The Juke features GPS capabilities as well as 2GB of internal storage.
The BlackBerry Pearl is set to be the first Pearl that features access to VZ Navigator. The Pearl is set to launch sometime in November.
The LG Venus is probably the 2nd most anticipated of the four phones. The Venus is an innovative slider phone with two screens on the front of the phone. The top screen is a standard phone display, while the bottom screen is a touchscreen. The LG Venus will be in stores by the end of November.
Verizon is clearly taking a very proactive step in being an alternative to AT&T (NYSE:T) and the iPhone. There certainly is no coincidence that these phones are very similar to the iPhone. Verizon has seen just how big the iPhone is, and cannot simply sit and watch market share taken away. Will the Voyager with its keyboard and two screens take market share away from Apple and AT&T? Time will tell, but you can't say that Verizon is sitting around and not trying that's for sure.

Good to see another person interested in trading and gadgets. I'd personally prefer a BlackBerry any day.
