Earnings Review for October 25

Today was another huge day of earnings reports, below are quick summaries of some notable reports.

Notable earnings reports for October 25

  • Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq:MSFT) Microsoft is the clear story of the day microsoft.jpgtoday. The company soared past estimates earning 45 cents per shares, vs. estimates of 39 cents and reporting revenue of $13.76 billion, more than one billion dollars above the average estimate for $12.57 billion. Operating margins grew by 2% and Vista and Halo both proved to be huge hits for the company.
  • The Black and Decker Corporation (NYSE:BDK) BDK came in with earnings that were not nearly as bad as were expected. The profit did drop slightly from last year because of the housing mess, but came in well above estimates and the company also raised its full year outlook.
  • XM Satellite Radio (Nasdaq:XMSR) XM reported a loss that was wider than the loss a year ago. The company also missed analysts estimates by 2 cents per share. Marketing and advertising costs were largely to blame for the earnings miss.
  • MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE:WFR) MEMC beat analyst estimates by 2 cents per share and secured an important wafer supply contract that will generate the company $7 billion -$8 billion dollars over the next 10 years. The stock is shooting higher in after hours trading.
  • Foundry Networks (Nasdaq:FDRY) Foundry reported after the bell that its profit has more than doubled from a year ago. The company handily beat EPS and revenue estimates.
  • Bunge Limited (NYSE:BG) Bunge's profit more than doubled from a year ago and the company also raised 2007 full year projections due to higher margins in agribusiness and fertilizer products.
  • Wendy's International (NYSE:WEN) Wendy's reported lower net income than last year and flat revenues as the higher costs of commodities hurt the company in the most recent quarter. The company did say that it expects full year earnings to come in at the high end of its previous projects of $1.09-$1.23 per share.

The Microsoft blowout quarter is likely to help the market start out strong tommorrow, with techs likely leading the way.
