In continuing with my top five mutual fund series, tonight I will visit the top 5 large cap blend mutual funds. The large cap blend mutual fund can be seen as the best of both worlds, with the fund containing both value and growth stocks. These
funds are ranked based upon performance, expense ratios, and management tenure.
The Top 5 Large Cap Blend Mutual Funds
- CGM Focus Fund (CGMFX)- This fund simply has no peer in performance over the past 3 and 5 year periods. The fund is the top performer of all large cap blend funds over those two periods. Kenneth Heebner is the manager of this fund, and he has proven himself to be one of the best. Heebner has been with the fund for 10 years now. Expenses are also quite low.
- Tocqueville Fund (TOCQX)- This fund has returned almost 17% a year for the past five years. The minimum investment sits at just $1,000. Robert Kleinschmidt has served as the lead portfolio manager since 1992. This fund is ranked 5 stars by morningstar.
- Neuberger Berman Partners Adv (NBPBX)- This fund has been a steady long-term gainer. The fund has a low turnover ratio and low expenses. The manager has been there for 9 years now. The fund looks specifically for companies with strong balance sheets.
- Davis NY Venture A (NYVTX)- This fund has a knack for picking companies with strong balance sheets and great management. The mutual fund management team here has been around since 1998, and won the Morningstar Fund Manager of the Year award in 2005. The front end load of 4.75% is the biggest drawback of this otherwise great fund.
- USAA Capital Growth (USCGX)- This little known fund has returned over 20% a year annualized for the past 3 and 5 year periods. The expenses are low at just 1.00% a year. The fund isn't for the faint of heart as it does invest in some illiquid securities at times.
These five mutual funds have proven that they are worthy to be included in a list of the top large cap blend funds. I personally really like the large cap blend funds since they give an investor a lot of exposure to both the growth and value side of things. The blend funds tend to put a premium on companies with great balance sheets, which is a huge plus in my opinion.
If you are looking for a top notch large cap blend fund, consider these funds while conducting your own research.
