Berkshire Hathaway is run by the most famous investor of them all, Warren Buffett. Buffett has turned this company into a $4,185 billion dollar behemoth that is respected just as much if not more than any other company in the world. Microsoft, Apple, Cisco, and Nestle all made large gains from last year in order to be in the top 10 most respected companies list for 2007.
This list is decided on by money managers around the world. Each money manager is asked by Barron's to respond to whether they a) highly respect b) respect c) respect somewhat or d) don't respect the company. Barron's then averages up the responses, assigns a point value to each of the four responses, and then calculates the most respected companies.
This list of respected companies is an interesting list. The companies on this list are ones that have gained the respect of the investment community. As companies gain respect, their stocks generally become more valuable, so this is a list that investors should probably keep an eye on in the future.
