So your a newbie who wants to figure out the stock market and investments as a whole? Or maybe you already know a lot about investments, but you want to learn more? This is a list of what I believe are the top 5 investment books of all time. This list is obviously my opinion and yours may differ slightly, but each of these books will help anyone learn more about how to manage their investment portfolio.
1. The Intelligent Investor- Warren Buffett calls this book the best investing book ever written bar none, so who am I to argue with Mr. Buffett? In this book Benjamin Graham presents two types of investing styles: a defensive one for those who don't want to keep up with their portfolios, and an enterprising one for those who are the go-getters and are willing to put time into maximizing returns. The book was first published in 1934, but the most recent edition is updated to include an introduction by Warren Buffett. This is a must read.
2. One Up On Wall Street- Peter Lynch was the most successful mutual fund
manager when he managed the Figelity Magellan (NASDAQ: FMAGX) fund. In this book Mr. Lynch writes about how the individual investor can profit from what they know. The entire theme about this book is profit from what you have an advantage over the wall street analysts in. Mr. Lynch is a terrific writer and will keep you interested in all times. This book is another must read.
3. Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits- Phil Fisher was an innovative thinker when it came to investing in growth stocks. Fisher writes in this terrific book of how to find good long-term growth companies, buy the stock and then simply hold on. Fisher certainly practiced what he preached, buying stock in Motorola in 1955, and still owning the stock when he died in 2004. This is a must read for those looking for growth stocks.
4. The Essays of Warren Warren Buffett- Anyone who wants to be profitable in the stock market certainly is interested in getting thoughts straight from the mind of the most successful investor of all. The book talks a lot about business valuation, investment philosophy, and the entire economic picture. Anyone looking to advance their knowledge will benefit from this book.
5. Stocks for the Long Run- Jeremy Siegel speaks of how the average investor must be in the stock market. Siegel uses performance measures to show how stocks have outperformed bonds over the long run almost all the time. Siegel speaks of the importance of dividends and reinvested dividends. This book is great for beginners and new investors.
