So, how did the equity markets do in January?  Overall, pretty good.  There was a scary patch in mid-January where the market sold off, but overall it turned out to be a good month. The returns are as of 10:34 am MST so they will be indicative, not exact.

The S&P500 was up about 2.7%

EAFE was up 5.5%

Russell 200 was up 2.1%

Russell 3000 growth was up 2.3%

Russell 3000 value was up 4.3%

Russell 1000 was up 2.8 (a surprise as I thought it would do better)

and the big winner.....

The Russell 2000 small cap was up 8.5% (a terrific performance) Returns by industry are as follows:

The big winner was ... you guessed it, Energy up 13.8%

Even with the softening in housing demand and rising interest rates, REITS were the second best performer up 7.2%

The worst performer was Industrials which fell -0.5%
